I added WW to the OEM coolant that came with the car. No sludge.

Read what red Line says on their website. The purpose of WW is to allow cars with adjustable spark to run more advance before detonation occurs. The stuff has been around for 20 years - a lot has happened both in the quality of the cooling system and in coolants themselves. Since we cannot alter the timing on our cars, I do not understand "what problem are we trying to solve" with WW?

Asa Bill said, unless you are seeing high coolant temps, I do not see where WW will help anything.

The sludging will generally not occur in the radiator, but in the reservoir where there is more exposure to air. If it is not happening with Type 2 coolant, wonderful. But we have seen it with many others, and Audi has a TSB on the suibject.

I think the dealer replaced my coolant with Type I or something else when they flushed it, that may be why those of you with Type II aren't seeing any sludge.

I corrected my IK-27 post to IK-24 by the way.

I see where you are going - did you measure coolant temps before and after? Your theory would make sense if WW releases heat as well as it it "pulls it". Otherwise, the ECT could rise, which is what the ECU monitors - but the IK24's might have kept the temps down, so the ECM did not pull timing. How can you be sure which mod cuased your positive result?

In the olden days when WW appeared, there were no ECM's checking the ECT - it was all about detonation, and even if coolant temps went up generally, as long as the heads were cooler, one could run more idle and mechanical advance.
