Adjust Those VALVES at 15K mi- Here's why-

UL, I've seen Honda valve cover gaskets (and spark plug donuts) that started leaking around 60-70k miles. Not sure if it has to do with whether the valve cover is removed or how tight it is installed, but I'd recommend replacing the gasket with the 60k mile valve adjustment at a minimum. For as often as I check mine I don't bother with the gasket, but for most people, that 60k (second?) valve adjustment it might be a good idea.

Your valve clearances look like they were pretty good before you adjusted them (only 3 valves out of spec), especially considering the mileage.

Wow! I would have thought it pre-mature to check the valves so early, but it sounds like you saved yourself from several burnt valves and a lot of grief. After reading your post, I would take a brand new S2K directly home and check the clearances. The rough idle indicates that you had valves that were not making full contact!

Yes, but you will never get that bullet-proof seal of a brand new gasket when re-installing old ones, especially the spark-plug well gaskets which obtain their seal by elastically squeezing the tubes like a rubber band.

I replaced my gaskets only once in the 140K miles (and 8 or 9 valve adjustments) that I had my '91 Integra, and that was only because I was tired of looking at the new one sitting on my shelf.
I think it is definitely a good idea to have a new set of gaskets on hand, just in case, but I would not replace a gasket that showed no signs of hardening or cracking.

I took mine to the dealer because of rough idle and hesitations in higher RPMs. The car had 45K mi at this point. The valves needed adjusting. Several intake and exhaust valves were out of spec.
I hope that there is no permanent damage. I agree that this should be checked earlier during the 15k checkup.
btw,
Charges came to $175 with labor and gasket. I have never done a valve adjustment but should probably learn.

Damn, I hope that included a reach around!
When I grow up, I'm going into the valve adjustment business!
