Did my valves tonight...here's what they read before adjustment

Intake, front to back .010,.010,.009,.011,.010,.010,.009,.010
Exhaust, front2back .011,.011,.012,.012,.011,.011,.011,.012

Intake range is from .008-.010, so 1 valve was out of range.

Exhaust range is from .010-.011, so 3 valves were out of range.

I re-adjusted all 16, putting the intake at a "snug" .008, and the exhaust a snug .010. If it was done by the dealer, 4 valves would have been adjusted (you would think). I'll let you guys know if I feel a difference in the car...

Could you tell any differnce? I have an '00 that is running a little on the rough side, and I believe this may be the problem. From what I could take from the dealership the car had not had anything done but regular maintence. So I'm wondering if this will help.

Pardon my ignorance but why do the valves need adjusting? Does the car have hydraulic or solid lifters? cuz usually hydraulic lifter engines don't need valve adjustment right?

would it be right to do a valve adjustment on an 00? with 11k miles? the owner never drove the car. i think valve adjustment are from what i heard is if u most of the time take it up in the higher rpms, making the valves lift higher and higher.

The rocker arms (cam followers) run directly off the camshafts themselves. There are NO lifters in this car or any car with overhead camshafts. I would assume that they should not have to be adjusted for 25 to 50,000 miles. It is possible that a rocker could loosen itself before 25,000 miles but I just don't think it is common.

I used to have a B16A3 in a Del Sol, that had 54,000 miles when I got it. The valves may have been adjusted by the dealer by the original owner. I checked them after I put a little over 60,000 hard miles on this car (8,100 RPM all the time) and believe it or not, they were all within .001". I adjusted them anyway. It takes a special tool, and they are hard to get to. I made sure the nut was real tight while retaining proper adjustment. It definitely takes practice

If your valve clearances are high, it will reduce low end power moreso than top end. I have adjusted all my clearances .001" BELOW minimum spec with good results.

Even hydraulic lifters on some cars require initial adjustment, to set the lifter plunger midway in it's travel. The S2000 is considered a "solid cam" car, meaning there is a clearance that needs to be maintained.
