Adjusting Valves
ok....every once and a while when i'm idling my rpm will drop and then jump back up to normal idle. also while going slow in 1st gear (5-15mph) when i take it out of gear a coast, the rpm will drop low again. my car is an 2000 AP1 with about 68K on the odometer. so i'm planning to adjust my valve, since they have not ever been adjusted, to see if that helps. now my question is.... i'm not very mechanically savy, but my girlfriends an airplane mechanic and does work on all his car. so is adjusting your valves the same across the board or does it vary for different cars? the main question is, should an airplane mechanic be able to adjust valves on a s2000?
thanks
Matt

Your dipping idle is associated with the hotter weather conditions you may be currently experiencing and the way the ECU learns to deal with it. This is not an uncommon situation.
Do a valve adjust if you feel you must but don't be disappointed if you still get dipping idle afterwards when it turn reals hot again.
Just don't help with the dipping idle by giving it gas and the ECU will hopefully learn to cope after several episodes.
I can't say if an airplane mechanic has the same valve adjusting knowledge that you would need to do this engine.
Now, this is really none of my business but I'm just curious ............... Your "girlfriend" is "male"????

(A&P == airframe and powerplant)

Depends on what kind of airplanes. But if we are talking an A&P license, then adjusting the valves shouldn't really be a problem.

try a engine top cleaner instead, they took care of my stalling problem, you could find it in honda, 8 dollar per bottle. WEAR MASK
I just did valve lash clearance on my S couple days ago, actually i did it two times in a row, the first time was too loose and it's ticking like a car bomb.
First time i did, it took me 4 hours(110degree in a non-vented garage), second time took me 2 and a half hours. One advice for your gf's dad, try stand on the radiator support beam when he's doing the intake side, it's too low and deep to work from the passenger side for me(why can't i be taller
it felt much better after the adjustment is done, almost all the valves clearance are off, couple of the exhaust valve is too loose
oh yeah, checked for broken retainer/gasket/spark plug seal while you at it too
