Default AEM ECU and J's N1 ECU questions.

Hey guys,

So I really want to stay NA, possible ITBs in the future, however for right now, all i plan to do is put a K&N FIPK on and possible ECU.

Is it possible to run an AEM ECU with all stock, except intake, parts? If so, what are the benefits from it and what kind of gains am I looking at with simply just the intake? Are there any problems with this set up as well? any warning lights on in the dash?

Alternatively, what is the deal with the N1 ecu? is it basically a pre programmed ecu that you just swap out with stock? Again, gains? problems?

Im not looking to hit 300hp here, but im looking to add a little bit of pep to my 04 AP2.

thanks in advance for the help.

You can run the AEM with a totally stock car if you want. But it's a hell of an expense to buy and tune for what would amount to very little gain. If I were you I'd wait untill it was required with the ITBs. You won't get any CELs. Not even if something goes wrong. It doesn't support the CEL codes or resopnses. You'd also lose your engine temp gauge unless you buy Modifry's ECT.

The JDM manufactures ECUs are generally modified stock units with the speed limiter removed. They are more radically tuned usually for a host of the manufacturers products. And they don't have knock feedback as JDM cars don't have knock sensors.
