Gilbert, so do you just sit there and keep increasing the fuel pulse and fuel until it fires right up? Won't that foul the plugs eventually?
I don't know exactly the conditions in which a plug becomes fouled. The larger issue is that the fuel accumulates inside the engine and eventually it does start even though your tables are not actually correct yet. Therefore it becomes and iterative process over several days where the car gets easier to start each time you try it.

what's the serial# from these ems's. aem had cold start problems with the early ones.
The earlier EMS's for the S2000 had different cam and crank trigger resistors. You can change these resistors or send it to AEM and they will do it for you.

" Do you have a wideband O2 sensor? If so what kind?"

I do, it's the Techedge Wideband. On direct startup, if I give it gas, the wideband jumps to anywhere around 29-30 and then quickly goes back into the 10s/11s, and then back to 14. If I do it too much, the car shuts off and I can't crank it again unless I wait awhile. It sounds like it'll turn over, just no spark. Is it running lean, then correcting itself too much and sending too much fuel?

"In general does the car start well once it's warm, i.e. if you go to a gas station, fill it up and the start it does it start fine?"

Yes, if she cranks up when I start the day off, I'm usually good to go. The problems only occurr when I leave for work (after it sits for 8-10 hours and I guess because it's cooler during morning time?). I'm not saying it happens everytime, but I'd say once a week it'll happen to me. Although, even when she does start in the morning, it sounds like she's struggling to turn over...like the battery's dying. But yes, I can do all the running around I need to do for the rest of the day with no problems. She'll turn over and spark right up like a champ...no hesitation.

<edit> Also, I keep changing the plugs like they're going out of style...thinking that might help, but it seems to not make a difference. Even on the first crank with the new plugs (which is still usually in the morning after the car's been sitting). Don't know if that helps diagnose the problem or not. Just trying to give all the info I can think of that might be relevant.

Thanks for the response!
Dave

Dave,

You might also want to post in this thread: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showt...l=tuning&st=125.

Sean (TorqueFreaks) is very knowledgeable. He might be able to help.

thanks yakrat, I was going to post there earlier but it appeared like they had abandoned the thread. It looks like they just had problems getting email notification of new posts.

Yeah, Sean's the one that tuned my car, great guy...knows too much lol!

Thanks,
I'll see what he says.
