Default AEM EMS Issue with MY2002+?

My tuner ran into an issue with my AEM. From what I was able to gather, the cam sensors and the crank angle sensors are farther apart in MY2002+ models, which somehow makes it difficult for the engine to start. A fresh battery was added (since mine is close to 3 years old) and it helped a bit. Engineers at AEM are working to finding a solution for the EMS unit.

Anyone heard of this issue (or can explain it better)? Or better yet, has anyone had their MY2002+ car tuned with the AEM without issue?

I'm trying to gather more details.

Thanks.

the crank angle sensor is inductive type
it takes a few cranks to produce useful signal for the AEM to sync
once it sync it should start immediately.

It's normal to take a few more cranks to start with the AEM than stock.

do you know which version is your aem ems f20kills?

This is a known issue. It's because a resistor used on the AEM board is rated too high (voltage). (I am sure I am using the wrong terminology...) If you take the board out and send it back to them, they can solder a different resistor on the board and it will be fine... the end result is the computer is more sensitive to the cam sensor signal.

The problem only existed in the first 50 units or so however.

Chris, I think that's the issue I have. I'll confirm with the tuner this week and hopefully have this resolved quickly.

(My unit is the older one)

Thanks!

It wasn't the resistor issue. The tuner shop flat-bedded my car to AEM where they discovered a "software issue" with the ECU . The AEM fellas will be spending this week addressing the issue.

AEM is pretty nice about most issues like this. Do let us know what you come up with on the exact fault.
