My tuner ran into an issue with my AEM. From what I was able to gather, the cam sensors and the crank angle sensors are farther apart in MY2002+ models, which somehow makes it difficult for the engine to start. A fresh battery was added (since mine is close to 3 years old) and it helped a bit. Engineers at AEM are working to finding a solution for the EMS unit.

Anyone heard of this issue (or can explain it better)? Or better yet, has anyone had their MY2002+ car tuned with the AEM without issue?

I'm trying to gather more details.

Thanks.
I have the AME EMS in my 02. I have the same problem as you. The starting speed will improve with farther tuning but that takes times and probably $$$. This is normal from what I hear.

I am experiencing the same issue. It is more difficult starting the car when it is warm though. I replaced my battery also just like you and I suppose that it did help a little. I'm hoping that this issue can be resolved though.

HAd the same problem.... becuase of the distance, AEM was unable to stat sync.... send it back to AEM, they will replace a resistor in the box. this will allow the AEM to be more sensitive and it will be able to read a higher voltage........

Yup. This was the first thing the shop tried and it still wouldn't work. I'm still waiting to hear back on details about this "software" issue since AEM now has my car.

It is a hardware and not software issue.....Becuase the distance is greater, AEm does not see enough voltage, thus not enabling the stat shink.... but changing the resistor values, most probably to a lower value, gains will be increased and thus aem will see a higher value.

Update: AEM did update a few resistors and reported that cold/warm starts are now excellent. With the car back at the shop, the tuner sprinkled more tuning pixie dust and all the curves (fuel, power) looked gorgeous.

This morning, they were wrapping up so I could finally pick up the car. They pushed somewhere into 320+hp... and then mechanical failure.

The engine cover is off and they suspect bent valves in #3 and 4.

The tuning Gods are not on my side.
