AEM EMS Woes, Round #1...
So today was supposed to be the day. I wasn't able to attend the dyno-tuning but here's what I understand went down. The car was strapped to the dyno and the EMS was prep'ed for the baseline run. The tuners went WOT, the car was fine until 6K RPM, where it leaned out drastically. They immediately pulled out of the throttle, realizing something was wrong. This was tried a few different times, with different settings, but it kept leaning out. The car was richened immensely (black smoke coming out of the exhaust) but at 6K it still leaned way out. They spent the whole day trying different things, and researching the issue. They called AEM, and ccording to AEM there is a new version of the software (I'm assuming the firmware) being released next week that is supposed to fix this problem. So, a day on the dyno and no results. Very dissapointing. We'll have to wait until next week to see what the next step is.
Wes,
They obviously knew this problem existed before your dyno day, but never informed you. Will they be reimbursing you for the dyno and the time you spent beta-testing their product?
Maybe you get free dyno time, or things like this don't bug you, but they chap my ass. I can't imagine if someone less accomplished slapped this in without a dyno run, hit the streets and blew their engine on a heavy VTEC run. The only thing that should be running lean in my car is my belly
Regardless, I'm intensely curious as to the final results...

This is a royal piss-off. They expect people to risk their cars and test out their software after paying $1400 for it. Not only did you waste your time and a day at the dyno, you could have done some damage to the car.
You should give them a call.
You should give them a call.
Wes,
Since you are FI and the AEM is basically stock mapped for a stock S2K, what route had you gone pre AEM to ensure proper fuel delivery? Did they not do a stock wide band O2 run to see where you were sitting pre plug in? There are lots of ways to screw up a motor with the EMS, especially in your case. Could you give me a call if you can find the time. I just want to ask you a few questions about it and maybe offer some advice if possible. We will be playing with the EMS on the 13th, but the car has only I/H/E mods. Look forward to talking with you.
