Your friend lost power so cams don't work?
Cams work fine, if you understand what they're doing for the engine and make the appropriate changes... slapping them on an engine and asking "where are my huge gains?" is naive. FI creates a LOT of flow, and with no understanding of where and when that flow happens is a surefire recipe to choking it off at the wrong time, hence a loss of power. Talk to g_s2k in Boston who is currently running 300 whp NA, partially due to cams.

300HP N/A? What the hell kind of set-up does he have? If this is at the wheels, then that is about a 110HP increase! I really want to know what he did.

Yes, it is bored out and stroked... I want to say 2.2, but it could have been more. The point being it couldn't have been done without the help of cams... they were properly applied and more power was attained.

btw, which cams were it? toda? skunk?
Any time the air/fuel mixture will be modified radically, particularly by something such as a cam, tuning becomes a necessity... in that particular case, an AEM was used. I do not know offhand which cams were used, but I know it's in his writeup.
