Default AEM v2 Problem

Hey guys,

Finally got my AEM v2 installed.... Sound grrrreeattt, BUT I also installed it with a heat shield to prevent hydrolocking. Now when the car is on, there is a noise that sounds like the fan is on, but is not. Is coming from the filter on the bottom. Did any of you guys have this problem before? Maybe is it cuz of the heat shield? Sorry for the dum questions but I need help.

Thanks in advance....

D

I know about the "bypass valve" for preventing hydrolock. Not sure what this "heat shield" is.

That noise you're hearing is quite normal. You'll hear it with just about any aftermarket intake, as well as the stock airbox when the lid has been removed.

Dave, I think he's talking about the umbrella dealie that some people use to "prevent hydrolock"

Is it a low humming sound? If so...all open filter intakes have that humming sound when idle.

Not sure it will "prevent it" but ill rather have a heat shield than havgin to cut the pipe... anyways, here is a tread with pics from CAI with the heatshield: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=264117

I know what the "umbrella" is and what's it's for. You just threw me off by calling it a "heatshield".

I've had my V2 since I bought my car and I've never had any type of problem with hydrolocking without an "umbrella." All that you really need to do is plug the hole that under the hood if you follow the rain channel down the fender. I know that this won't help if I drive the car through a foot of water, but neither will an umbrella. So, if you are using the umbrella just to prevent water from entering the intake pipe when the car is sitting in the rain, then you should just plug the whole instead and save yourself some work. Just my 2 cents for anyone thats worried about getting the V2 and having to build a shield or umbrella.

Again, thanks for the advise.. but the real problem i have is the sound... It sounds like a vacum, but from searching around it looks like its normal since the sound seems to go away....

Thanks everybody
