Default AEM V2 water protection question

My friend and I just completed the install for a V2 and he's concerned about protecting the filter element from water. I came up with the idea of using a rubber grommet and plugging the passenger side drain hole with silicone to prevent any leakage from above, however is there any kind of splash guards that can be adapted for use with this type if intake or should I consider custom fabricating something out of fiberglass?

For those with this type of intake, what have you done to protect the filter element from getting saturated with water from the top? Pics would help a lot.

Thanks.

I plugged the hole last night with a rubber stopper from Lowes. When I wash the car this weekend I am going to see how much good that does and go from there.

Xviper made a shield...there's a thread around here somewhere...

If the filter is well-maintained (properly oiled), wouldn't water bead off it like on a duck's back? I can see how some water might sit in the creases and pleats, but not in any significant quantities to saturate the filter.

Water may bead if it's in a very small amount and in a very fine mist. If it comes into contact with a steady pour, it will soak through the filter element and start collecting in the intake pipe (as seen in the thread with the link provided).

Kronos, please provide a follow up with your experience with the plug. We've done the same thing here but the car is still clean, so it'll be awhile before we do our own testing with wash session.

I used a Sunny Delight plastic bottle and some duct tape. Kind of ghetto, but it works.

wow - I just looked at your pic in the other thread. I see now that water can get in there in a substantial amount. Not a pretty sight. Was that from rain or washing?

I found that a large plastic pretzel jar works perfectly, you want something with a 4" opening...
