gernby, what if the insurance company was not notified of the modification made to the car, which I suspect is lextacy2000's case here.

When I was 17 years old, I had a Honda Civic with $2000 worth of stereo equipment in it. As far as the insurance company knew, it still had the factory radio. However, when it was stolen, they covered $1500 worth of it.

You should always keep your stock parts when replacing with
after market engine mods. That way when something like this
happens you can put the stock parts on before having the car
towed to the dealer or the insurance company look at it.

Even if I put a Supercharger or turbo on and blew the engine, trans or diff. I would keep all of my stock parts and rebuild to oem. Even if I had to get a new oil pan so the oil drain hole would not be there. New oil pan has to be much less than new engine!

This just eliminates the hassles of them claiming that your
after market parts caused the damage and thus you pay for
all repairs in full!
