So if I didn't want a louder intake sound, I would just make sure not to remove the middle baffle? Does removing this baffle not increase air intake?

Were kinda splittin hairs here...while I would agree that removing the baffle and "L" helps to improve airflow, I can't prove that it does. I just like the sound enough to be very happy with the "gutted" box.

I'd say try it just as is for a while and then you can allways go back and make the cut if you like

the spoon instructions show the middle baffle removed, and the hole in the air box covered.....

well I used a dremel with a cutting bit and it made a hella mess! Worked fine though. I have read how others have simply scored the plastic with a utility knife and snaped it out.

I like a "OEM" look so I allways go back and sand the cuts with fine sandpaper so you can't tell it wasn't supposed to be that way. Same goes for the airguide only easier. I made a number of cuts so a tight fit could be had, then saned/polished the edges.

Dremel is a wonderfully handy tool to have around. For this project, though, a small saw and/or heavu-duty utility knife would work better. Besides, grinding tool cut airbox plastic material into many tiny shreads that fly all over the engine compartment - very messy.

I Dremeled out my airbox for the idi cf snorkle on Sunday.

Oddly enough - my exhaust seems louder now. It sounds great! Butt dyno sez 5hp easy. j/k my azz isn't calibrated that well...

For those of you with a Dremel - I'd roll on down to Costco and pick up the rotary tool accessory pack. 182 pieces - from sanding to polishing to engraving to cutting etc... for something like $15.00 - $20.
