Air filter VS CAI

i'm deciding to to get either a MG racing/spoon drop in filter or MG racing/ Spoon CAI .. which ones has more power gains and wht R the pros and cons of each??

I'd suggest you should consider the Mingster JR filter (direct replacement) or the MG CAI. I have an aftermarket filter, but this was pre-JR/MG days.



Whereas the Mingster filter won't actually improve HP noticeably it won't degrade performance over time, and is cleanable so will save money in the long run.

Alternatively, got the MG CAI. It is a new approach to air intake (grabs air from under the car) and the most innovative CAI so far. I'm not sure if there are any definitive results HP-wise yet though. Greg??

Aus, et al...the only dyno numbers on the MG Racing CAI were taken in Italy in a dyno that had a wind tunnel set up to simulate speed and the reported increase was 12hp. I haven't dyno'd my car with the intake, but I can definitely feel it, and especially at speed.

I love it...makes me do this ---->

The only thing that worries me from getting a CAI is the possibility of hydrolocking an engine.. does the MG CAI has some sort of by pass valve( like the aem's) ??

BB AP1,

There is no bypass valve for the MG CAI.

You can install the aem bypass valve on the MG CAI though...

Here's another thing about hydro-lock. The engine would have to such water through about 4-5 feet of length. my guess is the engine would stall before that happens.

Would it be worth all the trouble to cut the fiberglass/carbon fiber and mold it back? Is it even possible with the CF? I agree with Greg after seeing the thing in real life on his car in Asheville. You'd have to be an idiot to drive through enough water to hydrolock the engine. At that point you might as well break out the paddles.

While it was only there for about a week, there was a significantly sized lake across the main road to work a couple of months ago...we're talking 8" without ANY problem. Yes, I could have gotten to work another way, but who wants to drive 30 minutes out of their way. OK OK, if I had the intake, I'd be inconvenienced a week out of the year just to get the enjoyment for the other 51 weeks
