Default air flow sensor

the search funtion isn't working for me...literally.

i have a 2007 s and my mass air flow sensor has gone bad, so says the stealership and they want $500.00 to replace it. can this be cleaned and the code cleared so i can pass inspection?

also, i bought my car CPO, is that covered under warranty?

i was going to have it inspected while it was at the body shop (honda's) so the dude isn't exactly versed in the warranty department.

thanks guys.

it would't hurt trying to clean it first, you never know if it is going to work or not but there is a good chance that it might and it won't cost you more than a couple bucks.

I cleaned out my sensor as a precaution to potential build up and it worked out fine. You can use electrical contact cleaner or throttle body cleaner.

BTW that sounds like a huge price to replace the sensor, I'd try cleaning it if it was me.

http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/auto/j...FOLD+%28+06-%29

Part 18 and 19.
$40.

Takes literally 3 minutes to replace. Two philips screws and unplug the electrical clip.

Pull the backup fuse and the CEL will go away.

You should get an itemized list of what they're charging you $500 for.

If it really is just the MAP sensor (and not throttle body / IAC), then they're totally shady.

And I'd think it'd be covered under a CPO.

Get a written quote

Call Honda USA and fax them the quote and a picture of a guy bend over.

Then fax them the cost of the part and the time it takes to install it and ask them why this dealership isn't following the book.

I replaced mine a few months ago, can't remember what I paid, but it was pretty cheap.

It would have been very easy, but the screws were stripped (I guess someone had messed with it before I bought the car), so it took a little longer than average.

well...the guy that gave me the quote was from the body shop. my car was there for a second repair of seats that were stolen a few months ago. mysteriously the sensor went bad while they had it. could be cause the car sat for about five weeks without running. honestly i think he was clueless. after i get my seats squared away i'll just take it up to the service bay and have them check it out and give me a quote. hopefully its covered, but if not it looks really easy to replace.

and definitely a little shady...they put used seats in without asking me first and had already gotten the check from the ins agency. i think they took the money they saved from my used seats over new and pocketed the difference. which is another headache that i'm going through with my cheap ass ins company.
