Default Airbox lid on/off for mpg?

I know in the summer, the lid off will cause heat soak and less mpg's.

How does it effect gas mileage in the winter?

Will it help heat up the engine faster?

How does the lid off effect the car in cold temperatures?

thanks

Why is this a fail and what have you contributed?

Its a serious question that I'm curious about.

A yes or no would be nice

I personally don't think it makes any difference.
