Went in for an alignment.

Max camber, stock castor and stock toe. Everything went great till he got to the passenger side castor adjuster where, like on many honda suspensions, the adjuster had rusted to the bushing sleeve. He spent an hour trying to break it loose. The bushing would just twist.

Now it looks like I need to cut the adjuster out with a sawzall and either replace the control arm or replace the bushing, whichever ends up being easier.

Anyone with any tricks to break this free?

 

Aftermarket bushings are few and far between. Mugen and Spoon for the lower compliance bushing, that’s it. Mugen are stocked by kingmotorsports.com and the Spoons are special order. Still cheaper then a new lower control arm. But swapping the arm in the easiest fix.

I used anti-seize on my track car when I swapped out all of the eccentrics. But what good it will do, who knows. The car rarely sees rain, always stored inside and it aligned often. I had to cut them both off the car when I installed them.

 

PB Blaster is a always a good place to start when trying to break things free.

 

Go to UK forum,they have a good right up on this,with equally good pics.They used copper grease.And also had to cut.

 

Thanks, all. Yeah, I anti-sieze every bolt but, this is a new car to me.

My experience with civic's is that once it's frozen in place, you're toast.

 

Get the Mugen bushings and never turn back. That is what I did. Mine were in there so good I had to remove the subframe and have them torched out.

 

I was thinking I could sawzall under the control arm through the bushing but, pulling the subframe is a possibility. If I decide to get a control arm, I could chop the control arm apart to get it out. $200 for a control arm isn't horrible.

 

You can use a sawzall to cut the bolt between the bushing and the subframe. I had to do that on 5 of the 8 lower control arm bolts on my track car.

They are made of urethane also...

As I recall they sell everything except the castor and lower compliance bushings.Did they start selling those also ?
