Default Alternator issue

So I was driving down to Summit to pick something up in the S and I noticed when I was about a mile away all of my electronics dimmed out for a few minutes and then completely turned off. (dash, radar detector, gauges, radio, headlights, etc.) Once leaving summit I needed a jump to get it started and 3 miles down the highway the car shut off and lost all power and I waited 2 hours for a flatbed. Just curious if alternators are known to go bad on this car or if I am overlooking something else. I have a 6 month old Optima yellowtop battery.

I have seen a couple of guys have there Alt go out. I would have the Battery checked first sometimes the plates come loose and cause all kinds of problems.
I think Napa had the best price on the Alt's

Batt is fine, the car would have still run without the battery using current from the alternator.

How do you know the battery is fine? Did you load test it or just take a voltage reading? There was a thread on here a while back about Optima Yellow tops failing like crazy. I would honestly suspect the battery at this point because you state that the car eventually lost all power and shut off. If the alternator had died the battery light would have been lit on your dash but the car would still be able to limp around until the battery was drained. Your description doesn't mention this happening?
