DO NOT USE GL-4 or GL-5 Gear Oil in the transmission. It will eat the brass synchro's. use Honda MTF.

Please don't give out WRONG advice.

GL-4 oil is exactly what you should be putting in your transmission.

Isn't GL-4 for the diff and not the transmission? Mtf is for the Trans I think, which I believe is 10-30 motor oil with some friction modifiers added.

For s sake, where do you people get this stuff??? If you don't KNOW the answer, stop making shit up.

GL-4 for the transmission. Honda MTF IS a GL-4 oil. As is the new Amsoil product, Redline MTL and MT-90, etc.

GL-5 for the differential.

Our transmissions call for MTF which is sae 10-30w motor oil with additives( right out of the owners manual.), same as amsoil mtf direct replacement synthetic. Amsoil does make a gl-4 gear lube which you can use as well in the transmission but it is not necessary! As far as getting facts right, I do believe that I have them correct. I agree that gl-5 is what should be used in the rear diff, that is what is in mine.

Riceburner,

You are right about wanting Amsoil but it is best to ask the factory recommendation. They make a whole slew of great oils, gear lubes and greases for cars, trucks, boats 2 and 4 cycle.

Amsoil did not make a trans lube for the S2000 until recently. Their regular trans lube was not compatible with some of the S2000 trans components.

Use the link in the site above and follow Amsoils recommendation.

I am a dealer and they will let you know if the right lubes are available.

Plus look at the new Ea oil filters. They are good for 1 year or 25000 miles. If you don't track your machine I suspect they would work well with the 1 year 25000 mile synthetics. I have not seen them yet(or found if they have one for the S2k),but their filters are expensive but good.

I use

Amsoil ATM 10W30 in the Engine

Honda MTF in the Transmission

Amsoil AGL 80W90 GL-5 in the Rear Diff

Read the oil journals and more importantly your owners manual.

Why not just use LE-607 in the rear diff? Its been proven to be better. What makes it better is the Almasol additive and being a straight 90W.

Wow! I've never seen so many bad posts in my life.
Ludedude is right ... shut your hole if you don't know what you're talking about. If you give someone bad info and they suffer a loss from it ... you could be liable for the loss.

As for Amsoil products (I'm an Amsoil dealer) ... here you go:

Engine:
Don't use 0W30 in an S2000 unless you live in sub-zero temps.
It's NOT Amsoil's best oil ... especially NOT for the S2000.
The lowest I would go in the winter for the lower 48 is their 5W30.
When summer time rolls around, you may want to choose from 5 or 10W30, 5W40, or 10W40. They all work well. I use Amsoil 5W30 winter, 10W30 or 10W40 summer (changed - new info on the Amsoil site).

Transmission:
There are currently only two Amsoil fluids suitable for the S2000, and 99% of you should use one of them ... Amsoil MTF - period.
Amsoil MTF is designed to replace Honda MTF and has the added benefit of a friction modifier package designed to replace GMSMFM as well. It is listed as a direct replacement for Honda MTF and GMSMFM (as well a number of others).

GMSMFM is ONLY listed for use in GM and Chevy light duty trucks using the NV1500 transmission. While it works in the S2000 and seems to help with some shifting problems - Honda will not warranty damage to your transmission while you are using GMSMFM. And oh ya - go ahead and ask GM to help if your trans craps out while using GMSMFM ... it would be worth the laugh to them.
For note, Amsoil MTF is a full synthetic fluid safe for ALL synchros (including AP2 carbon synchros) and is cheaper than GMSMFM.

The other Amsoil fluid that can be used (but not recommended for OEM replacement) is Amsoil MTG. It's listed as a 75W90 GL4 and is designed for higher horsepower applications.

Diff:
Amsoil Severe gear 75W90 (SVG) is an extreme pressure GL5 synthetic gear lube, and is fantastic. I've used both the LE and Amsoil in my diff and I prefer the Amsoil hands down for daily use. The LE is just too thick for daily use - unless you live in the desert. LE seems to do well during track days and a lot on the forum recommend it.

I hope this helps.
