Default Is AMSOil the same as GM Synchromesh Friction Mod?

Ok, in my quest to find the GM Syncromesh Friction Modified tranny fluid, I found something that a GM buddy of mine tells me is the same thing. He says just ask for part number 12377916 at any GM dealership and they should have it for around $11.91/qt.

A search on that part number found this is possibly it's replacement...

http://www.allsyntheticsgroup.com/mtf.html - AMSOIL Synthetic Synchromesh Transmission Fluid.

So, is this what I want now? Is this the same as the original part #88900399?

If so it is the first I've heard of it.

Amsoil has 2 different tranny fluids. In the bottle one appears to be much thicker than the other. I had the thicker one already bought and chickened out and installed the GM stuff, IT'S WONDERFUL!

I was a dealer but not anymore. They didn't give us that kind of info.

I just saw n screen print of a GM "Service Engineering Service Code Update" for part number 88900399 that says "SAME AS 12377916 EXCEPT ACDELCO LABEL/PACKAGING"

Encouraging for now.. at least there are dealerships that have this stuff. I just don't know if it's exactly the same.

i don't think that AMSOIL is the same......

it is either GM Synchromesh FM or AcDelco Synchromesh FM.....

here is what the AcDelco one looks like http://hardtopguy.com/store/customer/produ...ductid=254&cat=

Ok, I don't know what that AMSOil stuff is. It's just what I found when searching online for that part number.

But, that part number (12377916) works. I just went to the Chevy dealer and he had 8 quarts on hand of the GM Syncromesh Friction Modified under that part number. It was $11/qt. Looks just like the stuff you see in pictures for #88900399. I'd post a pic if I knew how.
