Default Amuse Extra Single exhaust buzz

I finally got the exhaust off the car.

I was expecting the worst as there are several stories of failed resonators circulating.

It looks like one of the hangers is cracked in several places. One weld, all the way around with two small crack extending from the left at the top and the right at the bottom. One hanger bar is broken all the way through.

This is strange as I have a Chase hitch, and this hanger has never been used.

There is no evidence there was any impact of any kind.

When I first took it the exhaust off, the crack in the hanger bar was not even visible. It was not until I wiggled it (gently) a little, that it separated.

Now I'm just waiting for my Ti welder to return from vacation...

Any Thoughts???

That looks like multiple failure (crack at weld and what looks like a seamless, tubular Ti rod hanger shearing?)?

Hanger must have hit something?

That was my first impression. The hanger is mostly out of the way. Something impacting the hanger would have to get by the hitch.

It was sooo easy to push the hanger back, that I would expect an impact strong enough to do that damage would have taken the hanger all the way off.

It only took a few lbs. of pressure to pull it away.

I do have another Amuse that did take a good hit.

You can see the bent hanger, one cracked weld and the other hanger mounting area.

I'd bet the thin wall thickness is a contributing factor. How long has it been installed?

I've got a local guy that can weld Ti if you can't get it done down there.

The tubeing is very thin. It has been on the car four years, give or take.

I have a welder down here. He did a good job on the other exhaust. He is up in Maine right now but should be back by the first of next week.

If he gets held up, I may be callin' ya.

Gotta get it back togeather for Wake the Dragon...

Looks like the same experience I had with Toda years ago.

Thin wall tubing welded to a heavier hanger, years of vibration = broken.

Very strange Gary. When I saw the pics I was thinking vibration fatigue too.

Hay Robert.

Vibration is the only thing that makes any sense.

As the hanger was never used, it was free to vibrate.

That would explain the cracks around the weld. I'm still pondering the hanger tube...

Well, I removed the hanger and welded up the crack.

I'm still getting a buzz...

You could have something broken inside the muffler/loose packing material etc.
