Default Annoying VTEC step?

Hi, all. It's my first post here and I'm here because I've made the decision to trade in my EP3 Civic Type R for an early S2000. I have a specific question about the VTEC change-over in the S2000. I had a big problem with the EP3 in that is is too easy to drop out of VTEC when changing up a gear (even when leaving it 'till you hit the limiter) resulting in a nasty momentrary lag in torgue. I spent mega bucks on a re-map which did away with the problem brilliantly giving a smoother power curve. I'm just wondering if you guys have the same problem with your cars?

Cheers

no the s2k has no problem staying in vtec range after shifts. THe car most notable that gets out of vtech/vvti range is the toyota celica gts and matrix xrs. There vvti crossover is way too high, when they shift it's like a vvti lag.

No! When you WOT, you'll be alway stay within VTEC range! (stock '06)

I've ECU upgrade, my VTEC zone now between 4200rpm ~ 8500rpm! How can I miss that VTEC power

Sorry i forgot the "L" in the vvti. which controls lift. S2k's have no problems staying within vtec.

In the old b16's and b18's you're supposed to use a vtec controller to make vtec come in later, so when it switches over to the larger cam lobe, it wouldnt have a dip in power. For the s2k, when you first get into vtec you dont really feel anything.
Until you reach about 7600-9000 you start feeling a surge of speed.

I think a 20HP gain is somewhat noticable...

AP1:

It's the largest increase in the entire powerband.

Hey, thanks for the replies and especially that dyno chart. That small dip in power followed by the surge is just how my graph looks. This is what I resolved with the dyno tune. My problem was that on some gear changes, you fell right into that small dip which was really frustrating. Anyway, seems like I wont have to raid the bank for a re-map for the S2000!

Cheers.

every year S2K should stay in vtec when shifting at near redline.
