Another #4 cylinder failure
Hey guys.....just got done removing the oil pan from an 02, engine# 1023992. The guy had a loud, heavy tapping noise that got worse as the car warmed up. The #4 cyl is scored to hell on the drivers side of the cyl wall. The other three are flawless. He's a regular customer, and he has been well informed about the possibly of the s2k burning oil, so he check's it regularly. We only use Mobil1 with the Honda PCX filter. His engine # does fall in the range of the engines using the old style oil jet banjo bolts (1025385 and lower). Basically another genuine case of an engine going bad for no reason at all....There are approximately 30+ cases of this same problem with other cars on s2ki alone.
Just a reminder to those who have not done this update, I would strongly recommend it. If you have an 02 or earlier, check the engine # on the sticker in the front of the engine.....1025385 and lower, you should update. 1205386 and newer, you're ok.
Xv....move this if you think I'm off on the forums...

It's not to bad of a job actually.....oil pan removal is pretty easy on this car. After that, just remove the windage tray (7 bolts) and the bolts are pretty easy to get at. Torque on the bolts is ultra crital, a high quality torque wrench is a must.
Part # 15290-PCX-000, bolt, 4 required
1 tube of Hondabond grey sealer for the oil pan, that's it for parts...

This is important enough information that I'll leave it here.
And I'll link the "How To" thread about changing the bolts:

Thanks for the info guys. Just one more question. I'm the third owner of my s2k(2000) and the car has over 76k right now. According to carfax, the car never had any serious problems, but I don't really trust carfax. Is there a way to be able to tell if the previous owners had change the banjo bolts?
