Default Another CEL

Threw a CEL the other the other day. I just went to autozone and had it checked. The code was P1457 (EVAP Emission Control System Leak Detected (Control Canister System)). Wouldnt really be a big deal if i hadnt installed my greddy ti-c around 7 months ago. It worries me that it just came on out of nowhere. Could this be harmful to my motor? I have heard stories of exhaust leaks burning up valves over time. Any truth to that? Thinking bolts could have loosened from getting hot and then get cold so often now that the temperatures are down outside. Any ideas? Thanks.

Not to worry my friend. You have a evap code. It has nothing to do with your exhaust and will not hurt your motor. The evap system vents the excess pressure from the fuel tank and also checks the seal of the fuel tank and vapor lines. More than likely you have a small leak in the charcoal cannister, evap lines, or quite possible the gas cap. Check to make sure your fuel cap is tight and the rubber seal on the cap is not dry rotted or hard. Most common evap issue is faulty fuel cap. If not cap you may half to go to a repair shop and have them smoke test the evap system to find the leak. The system is very sensitive, even the slightest crack in the evap system will set the code. Most codes are set on two trip logic so the computer has detected a leak more than once. Hope this helps.

Check to see if any hoses came off (or forgot to be put back on). They may have been in the way when the header was installed or retightened.
