Default Another Question- Brakes

sorry i thought there was a break forum but i guess i was wrong. well, seems like there might be something wrong with my brakes. or rather just the rear passanger side brake. whenever i stop (at a certain speed with certian pressure applied on the brake and while the fron wheels are angled-turning in a certian angle) it makes a loud screeching sound. i am told it can be heard from down the block. i had my friends brother take a look at it- he thought it was the brake dust cover making that sound but it wasnt (he bent it out a little)- he said the worst that would happen is that i would have to replace my brake pads. its a little rediculous because my brake pads look brand new still.

a question though- are the brake rotors supposed to be smooth or are they supposed to have circular ridges around them? mines look all rusty and one of my friends said my rotors are supposed to be smooth. could that be the reason why? i'll try to get pics tomorrow after work, thanks again for any advice/help you guys can give

The loud screech is probably coming from a little tab on the brake pad. The job of that tab is to make a loud screech! It is your warning that the brake pad needs to be replaced.

I suggest you pull off the wheel and inspect the brake pad.

And grooves on the rotor are normal. So is rust.

The tab is on the inner pad. Be sure you inspect that one, not just the outer pad.

Yeah, it's the one behind the rotor that has the warning indicator tab. Check it, since that's the most likely problem with this symptom.

When you apply your brakes, it should remove the rust from the contact surface with the brake pads. If you still have rust on this surface, you have a problem with your brakes.

While you have the car jacked up, check the "play" in your wheel. If you can wiggle the wheel side-to-side or up-and-down, you might have a bad bearing.
