Default Any power loss

I have used the search option and have came up with nothing. I have put 3 washers around the bolts holding the cat to the exhaust so It would sound a little meaner and boy does it. Now the washers are only the thickness of a nickel so the seperation is about less then 3/8's of an inch. My question is do you think I'm losing horsepower by doing this or should I be fine until I get an exhaust?

I can speculate about a couple possibilities:

1) The turbulence caused by the gap in tubing might be causing an exhaust flow restriction that reduces hp. However the fact that it's right after the cat might mean this isn't an issue. Could be you're perfectly fine power wise.

2) The hot gasses might be hitting the underside of the car at a place it's not supposed to, causing some issues with the passenger footwell.

So really what you've done is purposely mae your exhaust system LEAK. If you sit and idle anywhere for any length of time, CO poisoning could be an issue.
