I while installing my official numberplates, I was studying the underside of the car (like you do).

I noticed the car's exhaust has an appendix like tube at 90 degrees to the pipe, between the cat and the silencer. Does anyone know whether it improves the power (like tuning the back pressure length on two strokes) of just makes it sound better?

The learned British writer and engineer LJK Setright once noted that extra pipes (not blind, like that of the S2K) on the Ferrari Daytona's exhaust gave it similar harmonics to a clarinet!

It is reportedly just to tune the exhaust note.
