Any problem using 5w30?
My roommate and I split the cost of a case of oil. He needed 5w30 and I didn't think it would hurt anything. Am I wrong? I haven't used it yet, so I can still get 10w30 if theres any reason to.
If I was betting, I'd think that it would work just fine. But, Honda has specified 10W-30 for the S2000 while going to 5W-20 for most of their other vehicles. I can't imagine that this was just an oversight. Perhaps the S2000 needs the slightly thicker oil for the best lubrication? They have also specified a different oil filter for the S2000 versus the others. For this reason, I'm sticking with 10W-30 and the new (at least to the US) Honda S2000 Japanese made oil filter.
After trying Syn. 10W30, 5W40 I'm very pleased with the 5W30 Syn. motor oil. Engine never needed oil added, including high speed, hard driving & track time. Planning to have the used oil analysis done soon.

When you are in temps that do not go below freezing there is no physical difference between a 5W30 and 10W30 oil. A 5W30 oil will give you better flow at lower temperatures making it better for cold starts.
