Default Is anybody running a header wrap?

I have a Toda header and I think my under the hood temperatures are very high. I do not drive the car in the rain (it's on shaved R-compounds 100% of the time).

The only disadvantage I have read thus far about the wrap is when it gets wet.

- Any other red flags?

- Anybody run one for an extended period of time?

doesnt it matter if the wrap gets wet, the high temps of the exhaust will dry it out in no time. i got stuck in the rain right after i did it (its a garage queen, doesnt see rain.) and the only dry part was the exhaust. i am wrapped header to can (for 2000+ miles, noticed a sound difference, little louder. i wasn't sure if i liked the tone because it changes a little too, but it grew on me,

I have read that if it gets wet it will weaken the metal underneath via rusting

any other opinions or users?

I have seen some spray cans of hi-temp coating at the local Checker. I wonder how those compare to spending hundreds on jet-hot or similar products.

Thanks for posting that old thread, NVMY4N. I was ready to re-write what I said back then.

I'm a Metallurgist, and I've spent years working on the application of stainless steels in automotive exhaust systems. IMO, you shouldn't wrap your header. If you really want to reduce under hood temps, consider vents.

slalom - thanks for the post:

I assume spraying it would have the same unwanted effect as the wrap?

Are other cars running a wrap because they have better steel than Japanese cars or are they risking quick deterioration?

Everyone I've spoke to on the subject says do not wrap. It will ruin your header over time. I have a dc header laying around I may wrap just to kill the thing
