I have checked the compression on four cars already. According to the service manual the S2K has 228 psi per cylinder with a max variation (up/or down) of 28psi.

The best I have seen is our race car with 255, 255, 265, 260 from cylinder 1 to cylinder 4 respectively. On the other hand I have seen cars with 230, 231, 220, 218. Still within Honda Specs but guess which one runs better.

anyone know how much this compression tool is?

What is the likelihood that the dealer will do it for me as part of checking out the car?

Probably $30-$40.
Depends on what kind of relationship you have with your dealer. It's a simple 20 minute job and almost anyone can do it.

Instructions:

1) First warm up the car until the fans turn on.
2) take out the spark plug/ignition coil cover (4 allen screws/mm)
3) take out the coils (10mm screws)
4) disconect the fuel injector plugs (that way they don't pulse during the test allowing fuel into the engine)
6)Take out all spark plugs
5)Screw the compression test gauge line into cylinder #1 (make sure you are using the right tread adapter/hand tight)
6)With the transmission in neutral and opening the throttle full crank (start) the engine and keep cranking until the gauge needle doesn't go up any more. Always remember to have the throttle at WOT.
7) Check it twice and move to the next cylinder.
8) When you have tested all cylinders put everything back in reverse order.

Of course not...Compression can give you a very good idea of the engine state. Lack of compression or low readings is indication that there's something wrong with piston rings and/or valves.

We check the compression of the race car after every race weekend, just to make sure everything is Ok and keep record of how the S2K holds under heavy abuse.
