Anyone experience leaky oil filter?
I changed my oil yesterday and used a new honda 004 PCX filter. I cleaned the matting surface, wet the gasket with fresh oil, put the filter on, and tightened by hand as tight as I could, which was just a tad over 7/8th turn after the gasket came in contact with metal.
This morning when I went to leave for work in the car, I did my next morning oil change check: popped the hood to check the oil level (was perfect), looked for a leak from the drain plug, then I use a paper towel to wipe under the oil filter to check for a leak.. what do you know I saw some fresh oil. I gave the filter another tightening, and I was able to move it a few millimeters. I drove to work, checked again when I got there, and saw a little bit more oil.
Should I replace the filter? I could do it with little oil loss I imagine. Anyone experience a leaky from a filter before that was not solved by tightening?

This is odd, not common at all, considering you did all the right things. Don't panic yet. You could have just got a little oil on the outside of the gasket ring and it just took a little time to make its way out. Any filter, even ones that have been properly tightened can still be tightened some more if we try. Mop it dry and continue to check it for a couple of days. If it keeps up, get a new filter.
I'm wondering if you could have over-tightened it. I find it very difficult to get it to the 7/8ths of a turn. I do it as hard as I can by rubber gloved hand and then take a filter wrench to it for another 1/16th turn for good measure. Never had a problem.

well unless I have gorilla arms.. I didn't use a glove or anything. Is the filter strong enough to damage the threads on the engine if I did over tighten it? If so, is the matting piece bolt on?

Is it possible the gasket from the previous filter was still there and now you have two gaskets? I would definately get a filter wrench. Hand tightening has never seemed to be enough.
I've always been just bare-hand tighten the filter. No help from rubber gloves or filter wrench and I don't have Gorilla hands. As far as I can remember, I've seen no leak ever when I run my finger underneath the filter between the factory cooler/warmer. Is it possible that the filter is overtightened then? Or is it possible that the new gasket doesn't fully sit in the slot on the filter? Whenever I wet the new filter I press the gasket a little bit just to make sure it sits well in the slot because I've had a gasket fell out of a brand new oil filter before installation (for another car not the S). Also, I agree that maybe the old gasket was left on the engine side?

It is nearly impossible to overtighen it by hand. I would pull it off and check the gasket, make sure it did not shift and cut itself.
The s2k filter is very different that most filters. It uses METAL TO METAL contact to achieve it's torque. Tighten it slowly with an oil filter socket, you'll feel it stop dead from the metel to metal contact. After that, you can snug it extra like a bolt.

if i wanted to get a filter socket what size would i need to fit a pcx-004 filter. i have always used the generic tool that uses a metal "belt" to tighten/remove the filter. please let me know thanks.
