Anyone installed engine/transmission while connected?
Had to do some work on my car and have the longblock/transmission out of the vehicle. I am working at home with limited tools and low clearance (just on jackstands). I was wondering if anyone has used a engine hoist and load leveler to install the engine and transmission together, from the top. I was considering doing it this way so as to solve the top two tranny bolts or dropping the subframe and messing with the steering linkage issues. I am working by myself and doing them separately seems to be a PITA, just as removing them was.
Thank you!

Yep...no problem with an engine hoist. Just remove the shift lever for some extra clearance and she'll drop right in. A floor jack to support the tail of the transmission is nice to have also.

I have always pulled trans out first, then engine with harness from the top.
It's been on my list to drop subframe, motor, trans, rack, front susp all at once (raise lift off of it).

Not possible to install engine and trans assembled from the top unless you cut the crossmember out of the engine compartment. The oil pan doesn't clear the crossmember, the cylinder head hits the firewall.
If you can get the car high enough, or have a lift you can install from below. Unless you have a post lift don't bother trying. When working on jack stands remove the transmission 1st, then the engine.
