AP1 16" stiff sidewall tires??? 2019
#11
Hallo mede nederlander
I've got AD08R (but in 17 inch). They have a really stiff sidewall, and are very very grippy (in the dry). Also seem to last long, have at least 10.000k's on them so far, still lots of thread left. And they are available in the Netherlands, sounds like the tire you are looking for

I can buy current Bridgestone S02 (with N3 porsche approval). They look the same, same oem sizes. But I read old threads to stay away from them. Not sure why? If porsche approved them for their older cars with 16" tires they must be good right? I know that the porsche rims are 0.5 inch wider (7j front instead of 6.5j front on the s2k) but same 205-55-16 tire.
Does anybody know if the s02 n3 are also stiff? And if there is any reason not to try them? I can only order online so no way to see and inspect.

Tread depth will also contribute tothe feel of stiffness to some extent.

First, I use 16" wheels and my steering response is excellent with good tires. I have used 17" in the past. The extra sidewall is there with the 16" wheels, that is true. But honestly don't think it negatively impacts steering response in a way that is discernible.
Also, the knock on the S02 tires was/is poor wet weather performance and poor treadwear. In dry warm weather reports are positive. They are very expensive. There are other street tires that give great performance all around with more modern design and more reasonable price point. Conti Extremecontact and Firestone Firehawk come to mind. There are others. I use an all season tire in during the early spring and late fall and even they give really good performance, ( BF Goodrich, G-Force Comp-2).
I have used S02 tires and I did not like them for the reasons stated above. Being fair, the tires I was using were old. So I don't know if my experience reflects the tires fairly. But, I'm sticking to some of the other options for now.

Thanks for all input. Im leaning towards the Yokohamas AD08R.
Are they any forgiving at the limit? Or are they more like an on > off in terms of grip on the limit?
I also have an almost new set of S02 n3 set of rear tires that I bought from a porsche driver laying around ready to be mounted.
Can I combine the rear S02's with a front set of Yokohamas, or should I buy a full set of Yokohamas? I know general opinion is get all 4s, but just asking because they seem like a similar tire in road properties.
Please chime in

Since our cars are highly tire sensitive, even to tire pressure, running mixed tire brands or tread patterns is unpredictable.
I still think you're chasing your tail with narrow 16" wheels when there are wider OE size 17" wheels easily available along with a boat load of competent 17" tires.

@Chuck S I get your point, but I dont have budget to upgrade to 17. Also here in europe wheels are harder to find, especially used. So im trying to look for the best solution for my situation.
About the Yokohamas AD08R. Do they also work well as a daily driver in normal operating temperatures or do they need to get warm to grip well? Do they work fine down to +-10C outside temp? I have dedicated wintertires if temps drop further.
thanks

They need to warm up a little to get the full grip but they grip nice also with wet conditions.I think for 16'' rims they are the best solution.Check the specs and compare them with the oem s02's.Many Japanese tuners use them for their track projects.
