Default AP1 and AP2 prop shaft

My AP1 prop shaft is shot and right now:
  • I cant afford an OEM
  • I can't afford the wait of a Driveshaft Shop piece (3 to 4 weeks)

I see a lot of AP2 prop shafts around, but not all that many AP1

So my question is, are they interchangeable?

thank for any info anyone has.

AP1 prop shaft uses M8 bolts, the AP2 uses M10 bolts. This means that the output shaft of the transmission and input shaft of the diff has different size threaded holes. You could drill and tap the flanges to the new size/thread pitch, or replace the flanges.

I personally run an AP2 prop shaft on my AP1 transmission with AP2 diff. My flanges are all from AP2s

Stratocaster - so if I get an AP2 prop shaft it will connect to my transmission with no changes? Or if I want to replace the flanges, how hard is that? I'm getting an AP2 diff for my AP1 car so i'll need to do something to make this fit?

Thanks.

All I needed was an impact gun to loosen the nut and then swapped Flanges.

Honda has a procedure when reinstalling the flanges on the diff ( not sure about the trans) The trq has to be pretty spot on and there is a several step process to get it there. Personally I think id drill and tap the trans and rear end flanges before attempting to remove/swap them.

No, only swap the trans flange and differential flange if you want to change driveshafts (prop shaft as Honda calls it)

Replacing the differential flange takes precision methods to preserve the wear pattern of the ring and pinion. If not done correctly the dif will grind itself apart.

No special method needed to replace the transmission flange, just install and torque to spec.

I've read that you can drill out the drive shaft holes and then use the AP2 bolts to connect to the AP2 diff - is that an option? I read that you need to drill and tap the holes - but I don't think the drive shaft holes have threads - the bolts go thru the drive shaft holes and thread into the differential, no?? How hard is it to drill out the six holes?

If you're using an ap2 diff as mentioned previously and the replacement ap2 prop shaft just change the ap1 trans output flange with an ap2 out put flange. The diff swap is straight forward. You won't have any problems.
