Ap1 Bad idle

Hi SHIND3. Anythings worth checkig at this stage!

I had the worst frost recentley and usually when the car is cold it runs bad at first start up!, started the car up and TIPPED the throttle and it was fine! It runs fine everythime i tip the trottle. Then after that its fine until the next day

I'm sorry Darren, but I won't be able to help you until you test engine compression. I fear worn cylinder bores causing low compression in one or more cylinders and a resultant misfire causing the symptoms you've observed.

Ok il look into a compression test tonight when im home from work!

Would you know what the readings should be for a compression test. My car is an AP1 s2000 2001 F20c

228 psi is nominal, normal is + - 10% of that, the important part is consistency. The values shouldn't be wildly different.

IE 205 215 197 200 is still OK, but 210 160 212 200 isn't .

Do not clean the IAC valve.

If you want it to operate properly, the halves must be split and the shaft freed up. This would be my first step.

Thanks BILLMAN250 and SLOWCRASH101..

ive done the IAC already and when i removed it was really clean but even tho i removed it i cleaned it anyway.

im a mechanic myself but its hard to find a fault when theres no fault there! Well obviously there is but i mean where to you start..

il do a compression test hopefully tonight after work and update my readings ASAP!

... and what did you do when you removed it? If you simply took it off the engine, twisted it back and forth and made sure it was spotless with carb cleaner/degreaser you have done nothing to address the issue.

If you didn't take apart the valve with a 5point pentacle bit then you haven't accomplished anything.

A clean spotless valve means nothing. Take it apart it free it up the right way.

Compression test wont help your idle problem.

i didnt think a compression test would do anything.. well from the videos and things ive seen i literally took the valve of and sprayed brake cleaner in the holes and cleaned with cotton buds.. other than that im unaware of anything else of a cleaning process.

its removed easy so i will remove Again of the intake manifold and strip it down!
