Default ap1 car, ap2 motor

So ive got an 01 wiha blown motor. The cars on its way to a shop now and their giving me the option of an ap1 or an ap2 motor. So i need to decide which motor i want. Which motor is going to be a better building block, for instance, whats the better block for forced induction, and which block can handle more of a beating?

If you have a choice, I'd get the AP1.

If all you can get is an AP2 motor, at a great price, then get the AP2. Just did an AP2 motor swap last week.

Be aware that the F22 motor is not a good match for the stock AP1 gearing, which is 14% taller overall than the AP2. So you'd want to get gears (4.56 or 4.77) in addition to the F22.

get the ap1. it's better matched for that kind of gearing.

if you get an F22, you're going to be a bit slower than a stock S2000.

If you are going F.I and getting shorter final gear, F22 will work just fine too.

I don't understand why anyone would say the 2.2 would do worse on the higher gearing of the 2.0?

Let's see, more torque so it wouldn't lug as easily. Longer gears so it wouldn't run out of gearing nearly as early as the AP2s do which would make it better for autocross.

I think the early tranny on the late model engine is the way to go. I also think the early engine needs the lower geared tranny.

Now shorter gears are always an option, but not a necessity. I vote for the 2.2 engine.
