Default AP1 DEPOWERED

Can somewone can tell me how to differentiate AP1 rack vs AP2 when not in the original S2KI?

I have an AP1 rack on my AP2 and it was easy to be sure that it is a real AP1 rack since it was remove directly from the car but i will buy another AP1 rack to depower it (like MAZDA RX7 do it) and i find AP1 rack but it was not on the car and since when i receive my other AP1 rack, i found that it has the same part number on it than my AP2 original rack, without istall it in the car where the difference was an evidence, i can be sure if it was an AP1 or AP2 rack.

Thank you and if you have depower an S2KI rack, your help will be appreciate because i found only one that have do it since a long time and he race with this set-up and it seem that is a great upgrade from the stock rack that miss feedback, my AP1 rack with C/R braces and SPOON rigids bushings was very good as compare to stock AP2 but it lost the feedback i want and i try to modify the electronic assist but the internal restriction is bad!

interesting thought. as you know, the car has electric power steering, which doesn't rob engine power as a hydraulic rack does. what would be the reason for "depowering" it. I'm no expert, but i figure it would be annoying to try and park and travel in tight spots.

don't know if this is any help.

Typically guys depower their steering racks or swap in a manual rack to increase their steering response. You get a lot more feeling and feedback when you do this, but obviously you lose the ease of use at low speeds.

The idea of depowering any rack, hydraulic or electric, seems silly to me. It's like disconnecting the vacuum line from your power brake booster.

I haven't tried this mod, my suspicion is it would not help introduce lost feedback, it would only require more effort. The problem is all the electronic mechanisms which dampen the "feel", still reside in the rack. If someone figured out a functional way to gut the rack as well, then it might be a functional mod. Until then, enjoy the added effort.
