Default AP1 OEM spoiler foam tape replacement question

Hi all, as you can see from my pictures, the OEM spoiler foam tape is starting to come out from under the spoiler. This is a 2001 AP1 S2000 with 15,000 miles so I'm trying to keep it as OEM as possible.

From what I've read here, many people are using double sided tape to adhere their spoilers onto the trunk lid, but that's not what I'm looking for. The spoiler was bolted on from the factory so, it doesn't need the sticking properties, more so the foam cushion and seal.

I've checked and I don't think Honda sells the OEM spoiler foam tape separately. Does anyone have a great recommendation for what foam tape would work that matches the thickness of the OEM foam?

Thanks in advance for the help!

any roll of closed cell foam in whatever thickness you prefer. id say 1/8"would work.

Hi Spider,

I can see some other brands making 1/8th closed cell foam tape, but I think it may be better to go with 3M. Would hate to have any long term paint damage from something lower quality.

Anyways, looks like 3M doesn’t make 1/8th, but they have this 1.1mm version so I’ll give it a try. Once I get it, I’ll compare it to my squished out OEM stuff and go from there.

Hopefully you can get the spoiler off without damage or causing leaks in the bolt holes where it's secured to the trunk lid. I'm curious what it looks like under there when removed.

If you're able to measure the foam, McMaster-Carr has a large selection of tapes/foams.

https://www.findtape.com might have something appropriate. I have gotten some oddball stuff from them over the years.

Hey guys, sorry for the late response. I didn’t see the replies until now.

Forget about the first amazon link I posted, I bought that tape and it’s not right.

I found this tape that fit the apparent requirements, ie: name brand, closed cell foam, 1/8th (3mm) thick. I just ordered a roll off of ebay, amazon doesn’t sell it. Went with 3/4” wide.

When I take the spoiler off, I’ll measure the foam and let you guys know the OEM width.

Chuck, seeing as how my OEM spoiler tape is smooshing out, let’s hope the new stuff will work even better. I watched some videos for oem spoiler removal, looks pretty simple, just 4 bolts right?

Also thanks all for the tape retailer recommendations. If for some reason the new 3M tape I bought isn’t exactly what’s needed I’ll check out those sites.

3M makes OEM quality foam tape in varying widths.

Hi super-S2,

I have a MY00 with the same problem, so may I ask how well the 3M tape worked out for you? 3.2mm is a bit thicker than the OEM foam tape on mine, but I'm definitely looking for something with the adhesive on one side only.

Thank you in advance!
