This has nothing do with driving gently or not.

This is all caused by exceeding 9700rpm due to wrong gear mechanical overrev.

All it takes is 3-2 mishift from 9k.

The valves will likely be fine. I've fixed this many times and none of them ever needed valves. And it won't need 4 rocker arms. It will only need rocker arms that show roller damage that correspond to cam lobe damage.

Take this to the bank, do not run that engine at all. If you do, I promise you that you will need an engine within a week.

Wow scary ok, I wont run until I replace retainers.
What exact other parts should I do while at it.
Would I need to replace the camshafts and VTEC rocker at this point or can those still be used? Ill need to price out the parts and start ordering.

You will need:

8 ap2 retainers
16 ap2 cotters
1 intake camshaft

You can change the affected springs if you like.

As far as rockers, they may be fine. Inspection is key.

I have only had to replace one rocker assy in 32 broken retainer jobs.

So what rpm range did you reach?
Do you know?
Do you care?
I mean.. going by your first post in this thread you just "did some pre-season major maint. and other various checks"
It not that you were looking for cracked retainers, or were you?
Its your engine.
Taking the fuse out of the time bomb doesn't remove the time bomb.

This car has had over 5 owners before me, I probably over-reved once, but I caught it before rpms got too high.
I really cannot speak of how it was driven prior to me. I opened the valve cover with intent to inspect/replace retainers and do valve adjustment.

Thanks Billman, I was able to source a used head in good condition, so will take parts that I need from it.
Already had AP2 retainers and cotters waiting, I knew I would have to do this at some point.

Hmm seeing your getting a another head may be better cleaning that one up building a new built/polished head and swapping out the whole head. I think that may be worth while. Good time for some aftermarket cams as well.

Any thoughts on that?

Head has good cams, and rocker assembly. After market drop in cams would be nice, but Im trying to fix at as little cost as possible while doing it right.
While it would be nice to do, I just have other priorities. I rather spend the money on a new set of autox tires lol.
