Default ap1 retainers

Just for anyone who doesn't already know, you should upgrade your retainers as soon as possible on your ap1. mine is at 67000 and i just replaced my retainers and cotters and found three cracked retainers one of the three was half way through the retainer.

I think most ap1 owners know this by now. If not they should really get it checked

Are you the original owner? Has your car been over revved before?

Make sure the retainer didnt contact the roller rocker, and etch out the camshaft. This is a common problem caused by mechanical over-rev.

Even at this stage of damage, therte are no symptoms. not even the slightest noise.

Eventhough Honda used "AP2" retainers in post MY04-05 F20's used in any other than USDM markets there is no true mechanical need to change retainers.
If you don't abuse them they will not fail by default.

My car has 72k miles. I checked them recently and they are in great shape. Thanks to Billman for posting pix and showing us what good ones and bad ones look like.

110K just checked them and they all look uniform. Nothing sunk down so they are either all good or all uniformly bad.

checking them is the key, without over-rev conditions ap1 retainers can last the life of the motor.
