Exclamation AP1 Throttle Cable replacement

Hey guys,

Do we share the throttle cable with any other models?
Throttle cable for AP1 is of course discontinued and I’m looking to buy a new one.

Thanks in advance

Just posting here for posterity since I recently ran into this issue and FYI: RSX Type S throttle cables are confirmed to fit. The cable is about a foot longer so you'd have to loop it in the engine bay but it works fine.

Maybe still be available from a supplier in Japan...
Honda should give their head a shake, and check out how other manufacturers support their classic older cars. Owners of S2000s and NSXs are among Honda's most loyal long time customers. Most have owned or presently own, numerous other Honda vehicles. Abandoning these owners is shortsighted, and just plain poor business thinking. Mr. Honda would not approve to say the least!

Wow! Didn't realize these can't be bought OEM NOS.

Can the current cable be rebuilt? Must be someone or some kit you can use. There are a lot of vintage motorcycles out there.

have you checked aftermarket? parts stores, rockauto, etc? Or try to find a used one from A Solutions. Very very rare for the throttle cables to fail so if you cant find a new one, A solutions may have a good used one.

Shit outta luck. You can't even get the DBW cable actuator for 06+ cars anymore, either. Honda is really screwing the pooch when it comes to S2000s....

Been looking into this. It may be possible to use the cruise control cable, and run it without the loop under the hood. The ends/connections appear the same, but the cruise cable is not cushioned on the gas pedal end. This would require careful adjustment of the cable to prevent breaking it. It may be possible to add a rubber cushion as well.

All depends on availability of course.

I am assuming same person as on our S2000 track talk group on FB. If so, we found a used one. But in helping him search I found that yep, pretty much no one has this. even Car-part.com does not find the part. So finding some sort of option would be good. Odd it was hard to find used since this is not typically something that fails that I have heard of on this car.

Pegusus does make custom acclerator cables, but not sure if they would be able to provide the right ends here. May be another option.

There has to be tons of good used cables out there. I have never had to replace one.

That is what I thought too. I bet on Car-Part.com it is more of a thing where the actual part is not listed under the name that matches one of their selections. They have drop downs to pick the part type. I bet if you filled in the form describing it some would pop up.

I know that there are good custom throttle, brake, and speedo cables repair shops for vintage bikes. I suppose you can take a photo of the old one and email one of these services and see if they can fix it.
