Default Ap1 tranny

got an 02 s2k wondering what mods would have to be done if any to put and ap2 tranny into an ap1. Also ballpark figure on how much it would cost for the tranny and install and where is a good place to get the tranny from

You have to swap the output shaft on the transmission, but otherwise it's pretty plug-and-play.

Transmission prices will vary depending on condition/mileage/etc. but my recent research puts a used AP2 tranny in the $2500 range.

Expect around $500-750 for the swap. Might as well put new clutch kit in while you're at it... $700-1200 for parts, depending on options.

try the forum first, then maybe contact Hardtopguy or other forum sponsors - I know he has transmissions somewhat frequently. I got my AP1 replacement from him.

If all else fails, junkyards are an option, but not knowing the history or mileage may not be such a great thing.

ok I've been away a while but why would you want to do this? is there a boost in performance or do you have a bad tranny?

ends up i need a new tranny in my ap1 due to aggressive driving. i learned my lesson... anyway, mine is running 2350 with an ap1 re-installed, one year warranty on the tranny which is an 02 with 28000 miles on it. there is a place in north carolina that has very reasonable prices on very reliable equipment. if you happen to be in GA i know of an excellent shop that will do the work...

my replacement includes: tranny, clutchkit, re-machining of flywheel, and any necassary replacements of crap along the way. let me know if your close enough to use this shop and i will put you in touch with them.

The AP2 tranny is improved in a couple of ways. One is gear ratios (better acceleration) and the other is better, more durable gears.
