Default AP1 valve spring retainers broken

I took off the head from MY02 S2000 and replaced 8 bent exhaust vavles. While the head was off, the machine shop said the 16 vavle spring retainers are cracked and are not reuseable for fear if they break, the valve will fall into the engine and cause more damage.

I checked with Honda canada and USA and I could only find 13 of the 16 retainers that I need. Does anyone know where I can them other than through Honda.
Is there any after market spring retainers that are the same size as the stock honda ones?
Or does anyone know someone with a busted motor that I can buy them from?

how did you damage your valves?

was it an overrev?

you might want to have a head shop inspect the valve guides also, my valve guides were warped due to my overrev...and i replaced them all.

i'm surprised you can only find 13 retainers...try

Thanks for the link. I called them and hopefully they have the parts I am looking for.

As for the head, I did over rev it once and I think that caused the bent valve. All the parts have been inspected and broken parts have been replaced. Only thing left are the 3 valve spring retainers.

Thanks.

The retainers off the 00-01 S2000 are thinner than the 03+ so if you order new ones, order the 03 or up. They are thicker and more durable.

Thanks for the info. But I don't think the 04+ retainers are going to allow me to stay in A stock for autoX.

Still looking for some ap1 retainers. =(

I have a new, unopened, set of 16 AP1 retainers and keepers sitting in my garage that I never got around to installing. PM me if you want them and we can work out a price.

Yeah, but unfortunately, I am too much of an honest person and cannot sleep at night knowing that I did something like that. Plus it is posted on the internet where my competition can see.
