Default AP2 and AP1 torque sensors the same?

I have an AP1 car needing one but have an extra AP2 torque sensor that I’d install. Anyone know if they’re interchangeable? The ratio is of course controlled by the steering rack differences between the two cars, so I thought this part may be the same for each. Anyone know for certain?

Yes, the AP2 will work in the AP1 rack just fine. This has been confirmed by multiple users in a couple of different threads already.

They are backwards compatible but not exactly the same.

As noted they're not exactly the same. Different part numbers can mean something as simple as a different color although not in this case. Only the late part number is current, the earlier is discontinued.

Thanks everyone, appreciate the responses and clarity. I'm going to put it into my AP1 that has the dreaded sticky steering feel. I've tried cleaning it and following the normal protocol, but nothing has fixed it so far. The car has 270k miles on it, so it's probably the mileage and wear in this case.

Default AP1 & AP2 Torque Sensor Performance

I have a low mileage (29,XXX) all stock 2001 that I'm thinking of selling, It runs perfectly the only exception is steering shudder when backing up after it has sat for a long time.
I love this car but I'm considering selling it, just not taking it out of the garage anymore, got some serious interest in her but I don't want to pass it on with any known issues.
I've had just about every TSB and recommended maintenance (from this forum) done.
So I'm guessing cleaning or replacing the torque sensor will probably eliminate the one issue I have with her.
Many threads confirm that an AP2 sensor will replace the now unavailable AP1 sensor however are there any performance issues or changes in response when replacing with an AP2 sensor?
I may purchase and AP2 sensor and attempt to repair the old sensor and keep the new one as a spare.

I have a 2002 that used to shudder and spin the wheel. I reset it per the manual and have not had a problem since.
