Our OEM sleeves are lined with FRM, or fiber reinforced material. You cannot run aftermarket pistons, if you do it will be done within a couple thousand miles. I know Mahle makes forged pistons with a special coating that will work with our FRM sleeves.

The f20c and f22c in the s2000 as well as some preludes, the nsx, and others have what is called FRM fiber reinforced cylinder walls. Its an anti friction coating which also helps with cylinder scoring at high rpms. Dont quote me but i believe you can only use cast pistons. I believe forged pistons will tear up the walls. Also if rebuilding do not hone or bore the cylinders as you would with a regular engine. It requires a special non ferrice hone if doing it yourself and the amount you can hone is minimal. You can also have the FRM recoated. Most just choose to find a good block or when building simpily sleeve their block to use forged pistons and handle more power hope this helps

That's correct. If you can feel a scratch with your fingernail in the sleeve, then its already to deep for honing. If you are planning on getting the pistons that are compatible with the FRM sleeves, then I would get a new OEM block or find a good condition low mileage block. If you are wanting to put some iron sleeves in, I would just do it to your current block if its only the cylinders that are messed up.

Let me quote you. OEM S2000 pistons are forged.

ok because i bought a new block. the reason why i did that was because my oil pump failed on my previous one and damaged my block i took it to the machine shop in hopes of saving it. they told me that the bore btween the girdle and the block itself was way to bad to be fixed but my cylinders were ok. so now i hope the cylinders are good on this one becasue i am just going to boost the car now. i didn't know there was so much to doing an all motor with an f20 i think fi will be a smater route. and i was really set on doing an all motor buld

my mistake i was relating to the prelude engine thank you for the correction. However if your walls are decent and not too far messed up some machine shops can actually remove and completly recoat the FRM to make it basically new. Not sure on the costs of this though. And voodoos2k are all the s2000 internals forged? including the rods?

Yes they should be able to remove your sleeves, re-coat them if necessary, and machine press them back into the block correctly. Also yes, our bottom end is all forged internals. Thats why some guys are able to run 400+ whp without rebuilding and put tons of miles on it if tuned right.
