Default AP2 to AP1 Transmission

Hey guys,

I'm going to be replacing the transmission in my car sometime in the next couple of weeks. The previous owner installed an AP2 tranny on my AP1 car, but I'm swapping it back to an AP1 unit (found a great local deal on an AP1). From what I've read the AP2 uses a different input shaft. When swapping back to an AP1 tranny, will I need to find an AP1 input shaft? Sorry for the beginner question, but I want to know if I'm going to run into any issues once I've dropped the blown transmission.

Thanks!

Why go back to an AP1 transmission? Personally when I have the money I want to upgrade to the AP2. The output shaft on the AP2 uses larger bolts, and can be easily changed to the AP1 output shaft connection. To my knowledge the input shaft works the same.

Thanks for the quick reply. I had originally planned to replace it with an AP2 tranny, but couldn't find anything locally. Shipping a tranny to Canada is way too expensive to justify the cost.

What all is involved in changing back to the AP1? Will I need to find an AP1 output shaft, or will the AP2 fit the AP1? Sorry for all the questions.

To put an ap2 tranny into an ap1, you have to put the ap1 output shaft. So if you switch back to an ap1 tranny it will all bolt in with no changes. No need to change anything on it.

I don't see why you would want to change it though. It has better gearing mated up with an ap1 (shorter 1-4 gears and longer 5-6th) and also has better syncros (or however the hell you spell it ).

If closer 4-6 ratios is more important to you than lower gearing in 1-4, then the AP1 trans is "better".

Personally, my preferred combination would be F22C, AP1 trans, '00/'01 ECU

Sorry, I should have clarified earlier. I blew the AP2 transmission last August. Being stroked and boosted definitely didn't help.

Ahh okay. Yeah just get an ap1 tranny and it will all bolt up like normal.
