AP2 ECU in an AP1?
can you still get your key cut and not programmed?
if so, im sure you could use a bypass transponder sold in alarm installation shops.
they are about 30 bucks and are used for remote starters.

Thanks a ton for the info guys. I imagine my friend will have the lock cylinder as well, he bought a front clip with the engine in it, so I don't see the point in having the keys without the cylinder if it's not all still in the original car. It's an '05 ECU so the drive-by-wire won't be an issue.
I think as long as he has the cylinder I should be fine to get it running while I track down the key code so that I can get keys cut for my original ECU. I never figured it would be such a hassle to get keys cut for this car though...

Hold on! Let's back track a little bit here. If you are putting in a different ECU, you are still using your existing immobilizer unit. You should be able to use your current key. The key code is stored in the immobilizer. As long as it tells the ECU that all is well, the ECU should still allow the fuel pump circuit to be completed.
Are you sure about this? I thought the code was in the immobilizer circuit board that's built into the ECU (which is a Delco part on other Honda ECU's). I was under the impression all the thing on the steering wheel was is an exciter/receiver.
You should be able to do the key tape trick they describe in the manual though. Tape the two keys together so both are read.

After looking at the manual, I see you are correct. However, since each ECU can be coded with up to 6 different key codes, it would be matter of getting a dealer to program the current key code into the new ECU.

EK9 seems to spend a good deal of time going through the manual to help people out. Sometimes, this is all that's needed to get to the bottom of a problem (as he's doing in another thread to help another owner out). Over the years, I've become somewhat tired of flipping through the pages of the manual to find an answer to some obscure problem or question. If he's willing to scan through the pages, I say good for him.I've gotten to relying upon memory of late or not answering at all. And my memory ain't so good now and then.
