Its easy asf to just reprogram keys. Not worth the risk.
Dude thatship has sailed long ago. I can guarantee it's been ran up to redline numerous times the way she drives.

My point about the cylinders was that while reprogramming is fast, the knowledge and tools aren't free.

It won't last, constantly revving to 9K. So...she likely hasn't done it *that* much.

And $100-$150 buys a scanner and DIY. I'm still drawing pictures of buffalo on the wall of my cave...and I can use the scanner.

It costs the same amount at a dealer to have them program the keys.

Do you have the same setup? Cause it's been 8 years and at least 100k miles and I promise you she's drives it hard. But hey, what do I know?

Nope. But to be fair...you don't have the same setup either. Your wife does.

But I'm glad its working for her.

Happy anniversary.

I'm telling you its not an advisable setup based on plenty of people blowing up their very expensive F22's by using a 9K redline.

I have no idea why you'd even want to use a 2.0L ECU with a 2.2L engine.

Lots of people do lots of crazy stuff for (7? 8?) years before it culminates into something bad. I'm just trying to help you/your wife out.

If y'all are happy, keep doing what you want.

For example...I've been tightening my drain plug with my ass cheeks for the last 75 years instead of torquing it with a wrench. But on the 76th year, my drain plug came loose and my engine blew up. I also had to be hospitalized for chapped cheeks. If only someone would have dropped me a hint like "hey guy...its 29LB-FT and a torque wrench is just $10".

Anyway...the OP is going to use a 2.4L.
The engine builder is advising he should use a 2.2L ECU.

Do you have a 2.4L setup with a 2.0L ECU?

If not, your advice to just use a 2L ECU/your experience with a 2.2L in (not your car) seems a little irrelevant in this thread. No?

Thanks for the advice. It seems I did jump the gun. I didn't think it all the way through.

A new key at Honda is $115 (Or $150 I couldn't quite understand) and it is $305 for the key fob with programming.

That's a lot cheaper than me trying to do it myself. I'll stick with the AP2 ECU.

Its WHAT MUCH?!

You can program the fob for free in 30 seconds
And the ECU doesn't even control the fob. Why is the fob in play here at all?

You need your existing key programmed to work with the AP2 ECU.

You want to also buy and cut a spare key to have a spare because its a good idea. Buy a blank Honda immobilizer key for your year AP1 S2000. Ask (anywhere that cuts keys) to cut the key.

Programming BOTH keys to your new ECUshould be done at the same time. And should only be like $100ish at Honda.

Or less at an automotive locksmith.
