Default Ap2 overrev?

I have heard the ap2 valve retainers are better than the ap1. The ap1 revs to 9k and the ap2 to 8k, so if one overrevs an ap2 wouldn't it follow that since there is a 1k rpm lower redline and better retainers, if you don't bend valves you should be ok? Can you guess why I present this theory?

Thanks!

the longer connecting rods, add more force onto everything.

i dont understand when u say

"wouldn't it follow that since there is a 1k rpm lower redline and better retainers,"

yep, the longer rods are are a real factor.

Honda, if they wanted to do it right, should have made the block about 10mm taller to keep the rod length up...but obviously that would require a new casting, new mounts, etc.

well they could of just easily increased the bore. and strengthen the rods to compensate for the aditional wieght and pressure and i think they could have kept the same redline.

we need numbers. A very slight over rev you don't need to check them. a moderate over rev, get it checked.

I think what the OP is trying to say is that the AP2 already has a 1k RPM buffer sort of "built in" because of the lower redline. A miss shift overrev on an AP1 at redline resulted in some insane engine speeds. However, the redline of the AP2 is lowered due to piston speeds of the motor, the valvetrain is essentially the same as an AP1 only with even stronger retainers. It stands to reason that the AP2 valvetrain is less fragile when overrev'd for short periods of time under the same conditions that would have broken items in the AP1 valvetrain (namely, the retainers). This can partly be attributed to the stronger reatiners, and partly attributed to the 1000RPM lower redline, so a misshift in an AP2 will result in 1000 fewer RPMs vs. the same misshift in an AP1.

Billman has touched on this a while ago (as he has already stated).
